New Banner

I have a new banner coming.........! Final touches are being added, hence the new colours for my blog in preparation. There could be a clue in the colours being used...

DCM - Tagged

This week's challenge was set by Rhi: Everything we buy has packaging, some of it excessive, some of it beautifully designed. Tags, labels, stickers... all sorts of bits and bobs that we can recycle onto cards.

I dare you to make a card using a tag, label, sticker or anything else you can find, thats from packaging and would normally end up in the bin. Of course you can ink it, change it, distress it and add anything else you like!

If you're feeling brave, I DOUBLE DARE you to make it a card for a man!

This is what I came up with:

On a white hammered base card, I stamped Rhonna Farrer Flourish V:I swirls in: mustard/green/brown/black and gold inks. This ended up looking far too stark, so I chalked a couple of shades of brown to tone the contrast down a bit. Onto some brown textured card, I randomly stamped a gold Penny Black Happy Birthday greeting and inked the edges. The leather, chained tag came from my work safety boots which I mounted onto some pearlescent card smudge stamped with the same colour inks as before and randomly stamped with the Happy Birthday stamp. This was mounted onto some gold then onto some of the brown textured card. And voila! A man's tagged card - double dare accomplished!

Anniversary Cards

Uploading some new photos of cards I made yesterday, I realised that I'd made a card for our friends, Sam and Carl to celebrate their wedding anniversary at the beginning of the month, and had delayed uploading it until they'd received it. Then I forgot to upload it all together.

So, having made two more yesterday - one for my bosses and one for my hubby to celebrate our 19th anniversary on 2nd July, I'm doing all three in one go...

This one was for Sam and Carl

For Lea & David (my bosses!)

For Will (my hubby!)

DCM - Quite Simply Fabulous!

The Tuesday challenge from DCM was centered around the word 'Fabulous' Took me a few days to find my mojo on this one, but was determined that I would do it tonight. Once I decided to do it, I found that the ole mojo juices just flowed! This is what I came up with

The paper is from Crate Paper Birdie range in Stork and Peacock. I've used Prima flowers (which I adore). The stamp is from Autumn Leaves - Rhonna Farrer - Flourishes V:I. I've just bought these stamps and I simply adore them so can see them being used quite frequently, so beware! The letters are just naked chipboard coloured with a gold Krylon pen. I added some ribbon from my stash and a few gems for a fling of bling!

Bubbly Funk June Kit

Wow ladies! Have you seen the kit that Caroline has for sale over at Bubbly Funk? They are put together by Design Team member Di O. It looks so lush with the rich red colours. I've ordered mine and the extras kit already. Why not pop over here and have a look. But if you want one, grab one VERY quickly as they sell out so fast due to their popularity. The kits normally sell out within 24 hours. So, what are you doing still here reading my blog? Off you pop! ;-)

Craft Robo

I recently treated myself to a fabbylicious Craft Robo and have had fun playing with the basics of it.

Over on the Bubbly Funk Forum we have a thread running with some fabulous advice from the lovely Joanne (Angelnorth) on how to merge words using Inkscape. They are such fabby, easy to follow instructions that she's given us and so wanted to share her talents with you here

I gave Joanne's tutorial a go (in between watching the very talented, and dry humoured Gordon Ramsay on the F Word) last night and can only say 'fanks awfly' to Joanne for her help.

So for anyone that's stuck and wants some help from someone who knows what she's talking about (and that is definately NOT me!) why not have a mosey on over and have a peek.

DCM Challenge - Embossing

This week's challenge Was set by Lythan

Embossing.
Dry embossing with a light box or with a die cutting machine.
Using embossing powders or triple embossing.
Using pre-embossed papers.
Embossing with found items.
Just have fun playing!

And as I can't resist being a little (em)bossy - why not see if you can get more than one emboss technique on your card?

So... My card.....
On a plain white, hammered card as a base. I dry embossed (yep! I've got a Shapeboss that never sees the light of day too, until today that is!) a flower into the corner and a couple of swirly bits down the side, which I then distressed using a paper scratcher. I heat embossed a gold border down the right hand side and attached that to the left of the card. I had some left over felt blooms from my Bubbly Funk May Kit, so used the bright green and white polka dot flowers and layered them up with a big, red, spotty brad. Using some lovely green rik rak from my stash as a stem I added a couple of the green polka dot leaves. Just a simple greeting hand written on the bottom and some gems to finish!

There! That's my second weekly dare complete! (Is it Friday again yet, I'm enjoying these challenges?!)

DCM Mid Week Challenge

This is my second rising to the DCM challenges and my first midweek one. The challenge is as follows:

This week we have a recipe challenge for the Little Extra. There's an old rhyme that tells brides what they should wear on their wedding day to be sure of good luck, it goes:

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

This week we'd like you to incorporate these four things into your card -

It doesn't have to be a Wedding card, despite the verse - just as long as your card features each of those things on it.

So, here's what I came up with....
Old: The Papermania backing papers
New: The large 'golden rod' bloom
Borrowed: The centre of my 'sun' is from a broken necklace
Blue - Well the sky really, some of the journalling and a couple of the flowers.

Whad'ya think? Did I hit the target this time? ;-)

My first ever DCM card

I have had a go in the past at the Daring Card Makers challenges but have never had the courage to upload. Today I decided that this was about to change, so here is my very first DCM card.

The challenge was as follows:

"Hi it's Keryn here and it's my turn to set the dare this week. This time I asked my family for ideas for this weeks dare and the best amongst a lot of ideas including power tools etc, etc was Lachlan's ideas for Space. It's been his topic at school this term. (Lachlan is seven and in Year 3). To make in a little easier on you all I've called it Celestial to also include horoscopes as well as planets, spaceships, stars, suns etc. How you use these items is up to you."

I used a beautiful white pearlescent A5 card base. I cut a star from some black Bazzil card which I outlined in silver pen and added some doodling from a stencil I have. Then just embellished this with a silver star brad. I cut out a border from the black Bazzil, again outlined in silver pen. I wrote the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle on this in silver, finishing it on the card in black Sakura Gelly Roll pen. Doodled some stencilling in the black Sakura pen and some star 'characteristics' around the star itself.

How long has it been...?

Seems ages ago I blogged my photo album and therefore ages ago that I've blogged. Not done too much recently - been a bit under the weather and generally tired. Am getting nagged at to go back to the Doctors, so may have to give in if only for a quiet life!!

My friend had a baby girl on Tuesday morning, they've called her Ruby. I've seen a photo of her but will wait until she comes home to go for my cooing and cuddling. This is the card I made for her...

And another card I made for a friend. It's to celebrate his husband's first birthday since they were married. (I only hope Alex likes his card!)
